What car is right for me? 4door Sedan preferred, now with budget in mind.?

I had a cadillac STS v8, awd, (luxury package) black sedan and I absolutely loved it! However, it's time to be budget conscious, and more fuel economic. I'd really prefer to buy american -- GM preferred, as my father works there (wanna show support!). My wife has the SUV in the family, so I'm looking for a sedan or extended cab truck even. We have 2 young kids, so a "smaller" back seat isn't a problem. Thanks for the help!
