Why is my computer so slow?

ok so my computer is pretty fast on the internet usually but hwen i am on youtube or watching some videos somewhere or playing a game it starts glitching really hard and when i am watching video it glitches hard to the point where i cant hear what the people are saying it sounds like ripples of white noise. Ive hd this computer for about 4 years its a MacBook. What should i do
