Is this video viral legit?

my friend sent me an email saying his video on facebook would be going viral shortly then about an hour later sent me a link to the video on youtube and he said hey I went viral!. (I didn't check it yet then) then a week later(yesterday) I clicked on his link, there was only 187 views. I know viral means millions of views but I thought maybe I wasnt looking at the right website so I google the name of his video but the only link that came up was the youtube one. I know the only way you can know beforehand if your video will go viral is a warning from a blogger that found it and that it will link it to some huge website then the views will skyrocket. I guess what Im really asking if his video did get linked will see the views go up on youtube or can I only see that on the site it was linked to? If you will see it go up on youtube either way then I guess it was just some hype he thought would be fun to stir up >:(
